Chinaâs regulatory authority, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), recently dropped a surprise bombshell by revealing the specs for Teslaâs revamped Model 3 on September 12. While this may not have thrilled Tesla initially, weâre absolutely excited to share the scoop with you. Hereâs a quick peek at what weâve learned from the land of dragons and emperors đđ.
Two Exciting Trims:
Tesla is upping its game with not one, but two fantastic trims for electric vehicle (EV) enthusiasts. The standard Model 3 in China, similar to its European sibling, flaunts a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) with a robust 194 kW power. But wait, thereâs more! If youâre craving more power, Teslaâs dual motor all-wheel drive (AWD) version is here to impress, featuring an additional 137 kW motor for the front wheels, delivering an impressive total of 331 kW. Surprisingly, this outshines the European Model 3 LR in terms of power.

Chinaâs Regulatory Sneak Peek:
Before any vehicle can hit Chinese roads, it needs a green light from local regulators. MIIT provides a monthly sneak peek into whatâs cooking in the automotive world. Automakers might not be thrilled, but for us, itâs like an early Christmas gift đ. This transparency suggests we might see the new Model 3 cruising down Chinese streets as early as October.
Batteries and Badges:
The RWD variant sports a CATL-provided LFP battery, weighing in at 1,760 kg. It proudly bears the âModel 3â badge.
On the other hand, the AWD dual-motor variant comes with an NMC battery from LG Energy Solution and weighs 1,823 kg. It sports a âModel 3+â badge, but letâs not jump to conclusions about its official name just yet â Chinese manufacturers can be quite quirky with badge names after MIIT revelations.
Dimension Tweaks:
The new Model 3+ boasts intriguing dimensions. It measures 4,720 mm in length, 1,848 mm in width, and 1,442 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,875 mm. Compared to its predecessor, itâs 26 mm longer, 2 mm slimmer, and just 1 mm shorter, with the wheelbase remaining unchanged. Tire options include 235/40/R19 or 235/45 R18, and for the tire connoisseurs out there, an optional Hankook tire is available.

Pricing Insights:
Thanks to an earlier reveal from Tesla China, we have the price scoop. The RWD Model 3 starts at RMB 259,900 (âŹ33,220), and if youâre eyeing the AWD Model 3+, youâll need to budget RMB 295,900 (âŹ37,800). European prices are considerably higher, and the updated Model 3âs arrival in the US is still shrouded in mystery. Stay tuned for more EV excitement! đđ
