Probe into Tesla: Investigations on Musk’s Housing and Range Accuracy

Investigations on Musk: US Authorities Look into Musk’s Home and Range Claims

Tesla has been getting questions from government agencies in the US and around the world, according to their latest financial report. Now, there are three more investigations happening. The US Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) are looking into a potential glass building for Tesla CEO Elon Musk. There’s also a claim that Tesla is overstating the range of its electric cars.

As of now, ongoing investigations haven’t found any wrongdoing at Tesla, according to their Q2 financial report. This still seems to be true. The new investigations by the Department of Justice and the SEC are in the early stages, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

The Wall Street Journal first mentioned a possible house for Musk that Tesla might be paying for back in July. It’s related to a secret project called “Project 42,” which supposedly involves building a special glass building for Musk near the Texas Gigafactory. An associate of Musk apparently ordered expensive materials for this, which led to an internal Tesla investigation.

Musk himself responded to the initial report with a short “wrong.” He commented on the latest report by saying it was one of the funniest things he’d ever heard. He clarified that he’s not building any kind of glass house. However, the SEC is also looking into this. They’ve started a civil investigation into the potential project and are asking Tesla similar questions to the Department of Justice.

Another matter that US authorities are looking into is Tesla’s range claims. There were reports in July that Tesla might be exaggerating the range of its electric cars to make customers feel better. Now, federal prosecutors are also asking Tesla for information about this, according to the Wall Street Journal’s sources. Neither Tesla nor the authorities have provided official details on these investigations.
