Volkswagen to develop its own automotive software with CARIAD TECH launches China subsidiary one year after its own foundation.

CARIAD’s first subsidiary outside Europe, the local team will push and enhance the development of China-specific software products including the co-development of a unified and scalable new software platform as well as ADAS and automated driving and next-generation connectivity functions.

CARIAD aims to build a strong china team with software talent from Volkswagen Group, has a target to double the team of 600 staff by 2023 – over 90% of whom will be from China.
He also said that China is the market leader in digital innovation and new features and experiments on daily bases: “our newly established china team will enable us to quickly respond to local need, we develop, update continuously, improve our product as per customer expectation .”
CARIAD teams in Europe and China will also work together on the new infield and globally scalable software platform for all group brands.

A nationwide distributed R&D network is also being built up, with Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Hefei earmarked as initial hub locations.
