It is one of the largest battery storage systems in the world and is used to provide load shifting and fast-frequency response services to Hawaiian Electric.
The project was developed by Plus Power LLC and Tesla, and it cost an estimated $340 million to build.
The KES project was completed in March 2023, and it is now operational. The project is expected to help Hawaiian Electric achieve its goal of 100% renewable energy by 2045.
